There are different kinds of mass media: telephone, television, press, radio and others. A mass medium is a means or a method we use to send a message to someone else. Television is an electronic medium. Media helps us to communicate our thoughts. Although speech is an important kind of medium, it is not the only one. Why do we need mass media? Most people are in the habit of reading, scanning, watching, listening to the news because it's the source of new information, their pastime the thing to talk about.
For many people news is in great demand, because it helps to keep up with science, life and technology. It's necessary for their work, it gives elementary knowledge of literature, arts, agriculture). I personally use all kinds of mass media, because I'm eager to know the news around the world, the political or economic situation in our country incidents, accidents, which happened, the life of people and their problems, the view of the government on science, industry.
Mass media help us to advance in politics, in economy, in technology, in culture, in sports. We need democratic mass media, because we want everything printed correspond to our interests.
Many people subscribe to 1-3 newspapers. It is almost impossible to imagine our life without newspapers. For example: Izvestya, MK, Komsomolskaya pravda. The newspaper contains current news detailed articles about home and international events, reviews of new books, letters of readers to the editor. TV

I can tell you about advantages and disadvantages of TV. In my mind TV is a means of educating our feelings, widening our outlook. It enriches our knowledge entertains us. TV is a means of family communication with the world, that's why it's the source of valuable information. It awakes our interests in different fields of culture, science, medicine, etc.
TV usually touches upon burning social problems. Many of the programs teach us how to love, to deal with people. TV can satisfy any demand and taste. My favorite program are "The Monitor", "The Net".
TV makes people be lazy (less action) and poor sight.
